How to Maintain a Positive Attitude in the New Year

The New Year is here and for many of us that means a new start. New Year’s resolutions are made with a positive outlook on what 2017 will bring. After a few weeks, reality sets in and some of our resolutions fall to the wayside and maintaining a positive attitude throughout the year seems like an unreachable task. Here are 3 tips to help you stay more positive in 2017.
- Count your blessings. Make a list of all that you’re grateful for and first thing every morning state your list to yourself. Having a rough day? Repeat your gratitude list to yourself whenever you feel down or depressed. Counting your blessings helps set a more positive tone to your day.
- Keep a journal of all the positives. Every time something goes well for you, write about it in your journal. That way, on days when you’re not feeling your best, you can turn to your journal to help lift your spirits.
- Acknowledge all of your feelings- good and bad. The reality is we can’t maintain a positive attitude all the time so when you’re feeling depressed, angry or upset, allow yourself to express those feelings but don’t allow them to deplete you. Acknowledging your feelings is the first step towards overcoming them.
Keeping a positive attitude does take some work, but it’s certainly worth your time and effort. Being positive can help you mentally, emotionally and physically.
